womb-like birth 胎生 To be born to a chamber of a palace in the Pure Land where those who doubt Amida’s wisdom are confined. Since they are unable to see Amida or listen to the Dharma, it is likened to being in a womb. In contrast, those who accept Amida’s wisdom attain transformative birth. Note that “womb-like birth” has a different connotation from the first of the four modes of birth, “birth from a womb”. See transformative birth.
