Tathagata of Unhindered Light filling the ten quarters 盡十方无礙光如来 Amida Buddha’s epithet. “Unhindered Light” is one of the twelve lights of Amida expounded in the Larger Sutra. It was first used by Vasubandhu to indicate that Amida’s light of wisdom-compassion shines throughout the ten directions of the universe dispelling the darkness of ignorance of all sentient beings. Taking refuge in this Buddha single-heartedly, Vasubandhu himself aspires for birth in Amida’s Land of Peace and Happiness. Shinran holds it in high regard and applies it as a representative Name of Amida Buddha.
