stage of succession to Buddhahood after one lifetime　一生補処 Skt. ekajāti-pratibaddha, lit., “bound to one birth”. The highest bodhisattva stage in which one is settled to reach Buddhahood after one lifetime. A typical bodhisattva of this stage is Maitreya, who now dwells in Tuṣita Heaven and will appear in this world to succeed Śākyamuni Buddha. For Shinran, those who have attained the entrusting heart are equated with bodhisattvas of this stage, like Maitreya, in the sense that they are sure to attain Buddhahood right after their present lives. The stage of nonretrogression and stage of the truly settled are synonymous with this term.
