paramita 波羅蜜 Skt. pāramitā is usually construed as “gone to the other shore” or “perfection”. In the Contemplation Sutra, it refers to the six kinds of practices performed by Mahayana bodhisattvas leading to the other shore or perfection, i.e., enlightenment. They are as follows: charity, observance of the precepts, forbearance, endeavor, meditation, and wisdom.
