kalpa　劫 The largest unit of time in ancient India. It is so long that it can only be described metaphorically. According to one metaphor, it is even longer than the period of time required of a person to empty a walled city full of poppy seeds, one cubic yojana (a unit of distance) in size, by removing one seed every hundred years.
