flood at the end of a cosmic age　劫水 Buddhist cosmology divedes the cyclic transition of the universe into four periods: creation, duration, destruction, and annihilation. In the third period, the whole world perishes because of three big calamities: fire, flood, and storm. In the great flood, the rain lasts for many years and water spouts from the ground so that everything in the world becomes submerged.
