five defilements　五濁 The negative characteristics of the cosmic period in which the quality of human life degenerates. The five are: defiled age, defiled view, defiled passion, defiled beings, defiled life. The notion of five defilements has been often used in conjunction with that of the last Dharma-age. See Kalpa.
