Buddha　仏 Lit., “awakened”; an enlightened one, especially Śākyamuni, the founder of Buddhism. The Buddhist tradition teaches that other Buddhas have appeared before Śākyamuni and will appear in the future. According to Mahayana Buddhism, innumerable Buddhas reside in the universe.
