birth-and-death　生死 Another term for transmigration, or samsara, where sentient beings undergo endless cycles of birth and death. Buddhism provides methods of guiding people to liberation from such cycles of suffering and to the attainment of nirvana. Shin Buddhism teaches that the only way to attain liberation from birth-and-death is through the working of Amida’s Vow.
