Amida 阿弥陀 Derived from the two Sanskrit words, “amitābha” (immeasurable light) and “amitāyus” (immeasurable life), “Amida” implies these two characteristics of the Buddha which are found in the Amida Sutra, “Why is that Buddha called ‘Amida’? Śāriputra, it is because that Buddha’s light is immeasurable. ... Furthermore, Śāriputra, the life of the Buddha and the people of that land lasts for immeasurable, unlimited, and uncountable kalpas.” Amida is the central Buddha in the Pure Land tradition, and saying Amida’s name has been widely practiced among Pure Land followers.
