Aid to Enlightenment 助道法 Refers to Nāgārjuna’s Discourse on the Provisions for Enlightenment, Skt. Bodhisaṃbhāra. 菩提資料論 (T.32, No. 1660). Consists of two parts in six volumes with verses by Nāgārjuna and commentaries to the verses by a bhikṣu named Jizai (Īśvara?). The text was translated into Chinese by Dharmagupta during the Sui Dynasty. The title of this commentary indicates that the Mahanaya bodhisattvas should perform such practices as the six paramitas, the four paramitas, and the four apramāṇa (immeasurables). The commentary further mentions the various merits attained at the final stage, such as the thirty-two major physical characteristics of a Buddha and the hundred virtuous adornments that accompany a Buddha’s compassion as the fruit of the realization of the six paramitas, and also the active working of skillful means to teach and guide all sentient beings.
